Dance away anxiety

Let me see that tootsie roll!

If this isn’t the best PSA of all time, I don’t know what is!

Did you know that studies show that dancing is a super effective way to alleviate stress and depression?!

I mean, who remembers all the kitchen dance parties that got us through lockdown in 2020?!

TikTok dances aside, the reason why dancing is good for your mental health is based on actual science. Dancing releases dopamine (the neurotransmitter associated with pleasure that we all crave) and activates the hippocampus which plays a role in learning and memory.

This means that not only will you be giving yourself a dose of one of your body’s feel good chemicals, while you’re shaking your groove thing, but your brain will also subconsciously remind you of pleasant, dance related memories at the same time.

So any time you’re feeling stressed, grab a handful—three to five—of your favorite tunes to wiggle around to and dance like no one is watching!

Go ahead and yell, “Dance break!” for good measure! In your office? Your kitchen? Your car? Who cares?! Remember, it’s not a performance, it’s a practice, and a powerful tool.
