Staying Sane during the Holiday Season

Staying Sane during the Holiday Season

While it’s meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, the holidays can also turn into the most stressful time of the year just as fast!  In between shopping, work and/or school parties, and a million things on our holiday to-do list, making time to take care of ourselves usually gets lost in the shuffle.

Friend, it’s time to slow down and make time for you and I’m going to help you do it.

If you struggle with putting the “Me” in Merry Christmas, check out my tips for staying sane during the holidays.

1.   Do your shopping early.  Reach out to me for gift ideas if you want to take something off your plate.  Browse the Gift Guide or Made In Nebraska companies.  I'm your free personal shopper so please utilize me, ask all the questions!

2.   Don’t binge but allow yourself to enjoy this special time of year. You don’t have to deprive yourself of all the holiday goodies, just try to balance them with ample fruits and veggies to fuel your body.

3.   Keep up with your exercise routine. Endorphins from exercise can keep the holiday stress at bay...and make you feel a lot better about indulging in Christmas cookies!  Revisit these blog posts from past: the Walking Challenge 2.0 or Yoga moves

4.   Appreciate the little things. Life is made of little moments. Stop to look around & have a smell the roses moment. Make sure to enjoy all the sights and sounds.

5.   Maintain a holiday self-care routine. Don’t drop your normal self-care routine during the holidays, just give it a seasonal flare. How about a cocoa clay face mask or a peppermint bubble bath?  Go sit in a coffee shop or enjoy a lunch date!

If you need a rest button, take in the 5 Minute Challenge.  Text keyword 5MIN to 402-204-8070 for some simple steps to focus on you, all in 5 minutes!

6.   Spend less money. Nothing makes you more stressed during the holidays than spending excess money. Give your wallet (and yourself!) a break and recognize that the people on your list aren’t as worried about what you’re getting them as you are. As long as it’s thoughtful, a gift doesn’t have to be expensive.

                    *Your time is a gift
          *Consumable gifts are a treat
*Experience gifts make memories - print off this list
               *Handmade items are treasured
*Small business gifts are one of a kind

7.   Lower your expectations. There’s a lot of pressure (usually self-induced!) to make the holidays perfect, especially for our loved ones. Just appreciate the meaning behind the season and don’t worry if you never get your lights up or get your Christmas cards sent out!  Get back to the basics.

*Ditching the electronics for an afternoon
*Schedule in a "do nothing day"
*Bring back a family tradition or start a new one

I hope this provides you with some ideas to normalize slowing down the enjoy this time of year which we get to see & experience so much!

Here's a not so delightful read but very informative because the scents of the seasons can add to the anxiety, hormone disruption, and more.
