DIY Floral Arranging

If the last couple of years have taught us anything, it’s how much we cherish family and holiday traditions.

Let's be determined to make the holidays extra special this year and each year forward.

When it comes to gathering around the table for Thanksgiving dinner this year, adding a simple floral arrangement can make it feel extra special.

Guess what?

You don’t need to spend a fortune at a florist to create a beautiful centerpiece. Believe it or not, you can create a really beautiful focal point for your table using grocery store flowers!

Selecting your flowers

  1. Head to the grocery store to choose your blooms. (Trader Joe’s or Costco always has an incredible floral selection at a great price point!)
  2. Choose a color palette. At a grocery store, you’ll be bombarded by an overwhelming number of choices so try to stick to 3 colors. Having at least one neutral tone will keep your palette cohesive.
  3. Choose a variety of different shapes, sizes, and textures to make for a more interesting arrangement!
  4. Be sure to grab some greens. Adding foliage to your arrangement like eucalyptus will add fullness and support your flowers as well.

Arranging your flowers

  1. Choose a vase to arrange your flowers in. Anything you have around your house will do just fine! Simple glass vases are great.
  2. Use clear tape and place it across the opening of the vase in a grid pattern. This will allow your flowers to stand up instead of drooping to the side.
  3. Strip and clean each stem. Remove any leaves that will be below the surface of the water. This will help prevent bacteria and make your flowers last longer.
  4. Cut each flower stem at an angle to allow for more water absorption.
  5. Start arranging your flowers with the larger flowers first. Spread them evenly across the vase. Then add in the smaller flowers and create a layered look.
  6. Fill in with greens and foliage.

Making your arrangements last

  1. Add a few drops of bleach to the water to make your flowers last longer.
  2. Use a turkey baster every few days to replace with fresh water. Take the old water out using the turkey baster and pour new water in.

Ready, Set, Go Arrange!
